This is one handsome gent who needs to be buying lottery tickets! He's had it a bit rough up to now, but you'd never know it. A good Samaritan found him out in the big bad world and was concerned about an ear injury. They took him to a local shelter where they noticed that he was having to work just a little too hard to breathe. They got him checked out and the vet diagnosed him with a diaphragmatic hernia that he was very likely born with. This was a much bigger thing than the shelter could handle so they reached out and we were happy to help. Fortunately, the vet who diagnosed him is one of our vets who happens to be quite good at challenging and out of the ordinary surgeries.
This one was precarious. There was no guarantee that he would survive as much of his liver had grown through the hole in his diaphragm and adhered to his chest wall. It was taking up space for his lungs to expand as well as his stomach so he didn't eat much at a time either. The surgery involved using gravity, a determined set of surgeons, and a surgery tech to breathe for him. They put his liver back where it belonged and built him a new diaphragm using bits from his own body. He survived the surgery and now a few weeks out he has been released from all restrictions and is ready to find a forever home of his very own!
All this because one kind person was worried about his ear! There is no way he would have survived long-term. He is a SUPER SWEET FABULOUS ravenous boy who deserves a long life with a wonderful family who loves and adores him!
