About Doc Holliday

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Cat
  • Housetrained: Yes
This amazing boy is the definition of perseverance! We were contacted by a local animal control shelter 'cause he needed help, badly. He had been surrendered by an extremely elderly woman for whom he had always been an outdoor cat. He was found extremely injured under her house and she and her caregiver took him to an emergency clinic where it was determined that he would need to lose his leg. The woman didn't have the resources to care for him and so she surrendered him. We immediately got him to the vet and his leg was so mangled that it wasn't even clear what exactly had happened to it. Was it a bite from a fight? Was it an injury from getting caught on or in something? Was it a tumor? We decided that no dramatic action should be taken until we had a better sense of what was actually going on. We did a serious "clip and clean" got him on major pain meds and antibiotics and got him to his foster mom for some real TLC. She cared for him and his leg for several days as we came up with a plan which was to aggressively attack the injury, clear it of all that was wrong, stitch it up, send off what we found for testing and see if we could save the leg. After a long recovery, he has regained more use of his leg that we had even hoped. It turns out that the tissue was a sort of tumor that is technically cancer but does not tend to spread and though it can come back it is very slow-growing. So, it can be monitored for any signs of returning and we can always take the leg later if need be. He does still limp, but he is doing great! In the meantime, as if that weren't enough. His tail started showing signs of having also been injured and had to be partially amputated, so you'll notice it's a bit shorter than average, but doing fine. Doc is a quirky, wonderful guy who has adjusted to living life as an indoor kitty. It took him a little while, but he has grown to enjoy it. He takes a minute to approve of you, but once he does, it is like you've won the lottery! He is just the sweetest guy! He gets along with the other kitties in the home, but doesn't take any crap from anyone should they decide to try and give some. He doesn't start anything, but he will finish if need be. So, if you would like to show this dapper gentleman the good life and reward his tenacity for persevering against all these odds, please complete and submit our application at www.FLUFFNashville.org.* *Honesty Note: We strongly recommend that you go ahead and submit an application rather than submitting inquiries because others are and this kitty may be gone by the time we get to the inquiries.
